Access points can be configured and managed remotely via wireless controllers, eliminating the need for onsite IT expertise. Dual-radios operate in IEEE 802.11 b/g and 11a simultaneously, expanding connectivity support and bandwidth availability.

The 3Com Wireless LAN Managed Access Point 3850 can be powered by any Power over Ethernt (PoE) device, eliminating the need for an AC power plus on each managed access point. Distributed forwarding optimizes traffic flow, reducing latency, while providing ultra high performance and massive scalability. Sophisticated security features support the latest encryption and virtual LANs (VLANs) for secure remote communication including Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2), Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) and Wi-Fi Equivalent Privacy (WEP) packet encryption. Radio Frequency (RF) scans also detect ad hoc users, access points and sources of RF interference.
