The Coriolis Effect is a phenomenon in classical mechanics where a trajectory becomes altered due to a rotating frame of reference. The Catalinbread Coriolis Effect has three main parameters to change the equations of motion for your guitar signal. In this setting, the pedal will be completely bypassed when the effect is turned off. We included the buffer setting for those who prefer that style of bypass switching, however, as with all of our other buffered bypass pedals, when using the buffer setting the Position knob will set the volume of the buffer. In this setting, you must be mindful of the Position knob, as well as the Hold footswitch. In Buffered Bypass mode, as you turn the Position knob counterclockwise you will increase the volume of the buffer. If the Hold footswitch is activated, the sounds coming from the Coriolis Effect will continue to be aduible until the Hold paramter is deactievated (similar to the "trails" feature on other Catalinbread effects). The Catalinbread Naga Viper is a booster in the grand old tradition of the Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster". & nbsp; The Rangemaster has been used by many influential British guitarists including Tony Iommi, Brian May, Marc Bolan, and KK Downing and Glen Tipton of Judas Priest. & nbsp; These guitarists, while completely unique in their styles, share the Rangemaster secret of boosting their cranked tube amps into a juicy, harmonic-laden rock tone that always cuts through the mix. The Naga Viper is Catalinbread & #39; s version of this famous circuit and it enhances the classic circuit with the addition of two extra controls - Range and Heat. & nbsp; The original Rangemaster had just one control - Boost. & nbsp; The Range knob is a continuous control allows you to go from classic treble-boost to a full-range boost and anywhere in-between. & nbsp; The original could only function as a "treble-booster". & nbsp; The Heat knob gives you control over the gain level, unlike the original which was fixed at maximum gain. It & #39; s uncertain what exactly the origin of flanging was. It could have been the result of trying to push the boundaries of multitrack recording, probably due to running a couple tape machines in parallel but not quite in sync… Maybe a guy messing around in the studio brushed up against a take-up reel flange accidentally? & nbsp; Maybe that guy was Les Paul, maybe it was John Lennon and George Martin? It is unclear. But, what is clear is that the mechanical studio method of achieving the effect became, within a decade, commonplace enough for companies to simulate the effect electronically. The electronic approaches were pretty cool and groundbreaking, but by the & #39; 80s became tired and worn out. At Catalinbread they attribute this to the fact that these units controlled the flange effect using an LFO that went up and down at a predictable rate taking the life and freshness out of the effect. When Catalinbread decided to design a flanger, they approached it the way it was originally done…The Catatlinbread Zero Point Flanger is the most direct analogy to studio tape flanging that anybody has come up with. It is a REAL TIME effect not a typical modulation effect. That is to say, unlike all other pedal flangers, there is no LFO that presents a predictable up and down swooshing sound, the trite flanger effect that died in the 80s. Thus there is no need for extraneous knobs or switches. It is a straight-foward pedal that has only one powerful control that behaves like pressing and holding your thumb on tape flange. When the Zero Point is engaged two delay lines are turned on, subtly modulating against the other simulating the comb filtering effect akin to the playback of two tape machines. Pressing and holding the "Flange Push-Button" causes one of the delay lines to slowly shift time toward the other delay line, up to the point that your signal begins to cancel out, THE ZERO POINT! Release the Flange Push-Button and the delay line begins to automatically fall again. The result is the whispy subtractive & #39; thru-zero & #39; sound that creates a sense of space and mystery. An effect that up until now we & #39; ve only heard on records. It behaves just like manually advancing the take up reel and pressing your thumb on the supply reel to slow the program down. The Zero Point Flanger automatically powers up in the inverted phase mode, resulting in a more dramatic subtractive flange effect. If you press and hold the Flange Push-Button while powering up the Zero Point you enter the positive phase mode which because it sums the two delay lines, never cancels out. This mode is a bit less dramatic than the subtractive mode but still a very tape like analogy. There are merits to both modes, ultimately it is best left up to personal preference. It & #39; s recommended that you start out by first plugging your Zero Point in toward the end of your pedal chain, after your favorite dirt box. When you turn it on for the first time you will be struck by how it adds a nice tape compression and gritty tape-like harmonics to your sound as well as adding very subtle modulation simulating the tape machine tension arm’s effect on the inertia of the moving tape… Within a short time of interacting with the Flange Push-Button and playing you will find your mind free of thought, while music effortlessly flows from your fingers. This pedal is a complete paradigm shift that makes you play differently. It is certainly NOT a pedal for everybody. The Valco company of Chicago made amplifiers under their own name in addition to building amps for other companies such as Supro, National, and Gretsch, to name a few. Most of these were lower powered amps with a great sounding natural tube breakup and many models also featured a unique sounding tube driven tremolo. It had a hypnotic throb and was also capable of hard, choppy tremolo. Combined with the breakup overdriven characteristics of the amplifier, it created a percussive, rhythmic pulse that is very inspiring to play. The Catalinbread Valcoder was designed to recreate the tube tremolo as well as the amplifier breakup of these vintage amplifiers. Separate input and output controls allow you to get anything from a clean tremolo sound all the way up to a gritty tube like breakup driving the tremolo circuit. The Catalinbread Valcoder features an all discrete analog LFO circuit inspired by & #39; 60s Valco tube tremolo. With the depth and rate knobs set lower, the result is a smooth, bubbling modulation that is especially seductive when playing complex chords in the neck position. Crank the DEPTH and RATE knobs for haunting pulses to hard rhythmic chop that adds tension and attitude particularly to distorted passages. The Catalinbread Valcoder has a dynamic and responsive audio path (JFET based) that adds a bit of vintage tube amp style grit and slight compression to your sound. Increasing the INPUT knob pushes the front side of the circuit harder adding grit and a bit of compression. You can set the OUTPUT knob to adjust for unity or boosted signal. The Catalinbread Valcoder can also function as a great edge-of-breakup booster. With the DEPTH knob all the way down, and the INPUT & OUTPUT knobs turned all the way up, you will get a warm, gritty 10dB boost. This can be used as an always-on element to fill out your sound or can be used when you need it to help leads punch through the mix. The Catalinbread Valcoder can be run from 9 -18 volts. 9 volts will allow for more compression and grit with a softer pick attack. 18 volts will increase the output level and will be slightly cleaner and less compressed with a more immediate pick attack.
