Blurring the boundaries of time and genre, James interprets songs made famous by artists including The Beach Boys, Sonny and Cher, Dianne Izzo, Ray Noble and Al Bowlly, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Abey Lincoln. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The LP's first track is a cover of the Beach Boys' & quot;I Just Wasn't Made For These Times & quot;. According to Pitchfork, James recorded the cover over a sample of Isaac Hayes' & quot;By the Time I Get to Phoenix & quot;, itself a cover of the Jimmy Webb song popularized by Glen Campbell. In a press release, James explains that he & quot;ripped apart 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix' and put it back together again as 'I Just Wasn't Made for These Times' & quot; while listening to the master tapes for Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot;'I Just Wasn't Made for These Times' is a song that has spoken to me very deeply from the first time I heard it, & quot; James explains. & quot;So often, many of us just feel like we don't fit in, like somehow we were dropped into the wrong life at the wrong time. This song has such a beautiful way of resonating with that energy and relating to the pain of life on earth, but also offering hope and comfort in the beautiful sounds of togetherness. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;a name= & quot;SS & quot; & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;iframe width= & quot;560 & quot; height= & quot;315 & quot; src= & quot;https://www.youtube.com/embed/WBWe7ntARxY & quot; frameborder= & quot;0 & quot; allowfullscreen & gt; & lt;/iframe & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; • Limited time download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Jim James Uniform Distortion LP (Vinyl)

Uniform Distortion is his latest solo adventure and & quot;Just a Fool & quot; is his cowbell-rocking song from the album. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The philosophy and thought that went into making this record was inspired by Jim James' utter fascination with The Last Whole Earth Catalog. If you don't know the publication, suffice it to say that it was a bible for many of us hippie kids bent on a mission to make the planet a better place some 40 and 50 years ago. It was like the Internet for ecology in magazine form. The catalog included a particular image that captured Jim James' imagination – a photograph titled the & quot;Illuminated Man & quot; by Duane Michals. Jim James wanted to use this image for his album and wrote to Duane Michals for permission. After being turned down, James doubled down his efforts and wrote another letter to Michals, which convinced him to allow James to use the photo. The following is an excerpt from that letter. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;My head feels like it is exploding with the amount of information we are forced to consume on a daily basis, and how that information is so DISTORTED there is almost no longer any tangible truth. The name of my new record is UNIFORM DISTORTION because I feel like there is this blanket distortion on society/media and the way we gather our ‘news and important information. More and more of us are feeling lost and looking for new ways out of this distortion and back to the truth…and finding hope in places like the desert where I write this now...finding hope in the land and in the water and in old books offering new ideas and most importantly in each other and love. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;a name= & quot;SS & quot; & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;iframe width= & quot;560 & quot; height= & quot;315 & quot; src= & quot;https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qmya6hUzVhE & quot; frameborder= & quot;0 & quot; allowfullscreen & gt; & lt;/iframe & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Limited time download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Drive-By Truckers English Oceans 2LP (Vinyl)

So I had time to really focus. I kind of had to re-learn how to write, because I didn’t write as many songs as I’d wanted on the last couple of records. I was happy with these songs, and thrilled to go in and record so many that I felt real strongly about.” & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Hood notes, & lt;b & gt; & quot;I don’t think we’ve ever had a record where Cooley was as deeply involved in every aspect of the making of it as he was this time. With Cooley’s writing, there’s almost no precedent for it in our catalog. He came in with this stunning bunch of songs, full of this beautiful imagery. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Writing independently, Cooley and Hood penned songs that dovetailed brilliantly with each other. Hood says, & lt;b & gt; & quot;Every song on this record connects with another song. I noticed Cooley’s got a line in ‘Primer Coat’ about ‘apron strings,’ and I have the exact same image in one of my songs, ‘Hanging On.’ It goes on and on and on like that on this record, and that’s a pretty good sign for things, particularly given how different our temperaments are and our styles of writing are. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cooley and Hood’s brace of character - based songs depict a neatly interlocking gallery of relationships, often in dissolution and discord. The last song written and recorded for the album, Hood’s rave-up “Pauline Hawkins,” was based on a new novel by Willy Vlautin and penned after another of his compositions was scrapped. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Hood says, & lt;b & gt; & quot; There was such a balance between Cooley’s songs and my songs that taking a song off the record would upset the balance a little bit. I liked the back-and-forth flow, like our shows tend to do. I got an advance copy of Willy’s latest book, The Free. I’ve been a fan of his writing for a while. I read it in about three days. I finished it on Saturday, I wrote the song on Sunday, and then we cut it on Thursday and mastered the record on the following Monday. It sure makes it a better record. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; DBT’s ever-keen political edge can be seen in two songs on the release. Cooley’s “Made Up English Oceans” derives from his interest in the career of Lee Atwater, the Republican operative who was active in the Reagan and Bush campaigns of the ‘80s. & lt;b & gt;“He was the guy that Karl Rove and all of the modern dirty tricksters looked to – he was one of the granddaddies of it all. That song is from his point of view, fictionally of course. It’s him making his pitch, telling what he understands about young, Southern men.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Hood says “The Part of Him” was inspired by the procession of scandals that plague the political world year after year. & lt;b & gt; & quot; It’s about political assholery -- there’s someone new playing that role every few months,” & lt;/b & gt; he says. & lt;b & gt;“As soon as we get rid of one of them, someone comes up and starts playing that part again. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Reflecting the renewed high level of collaboration between the band’s two principals, English Oceans marks an unprecedented event: the recording of a Hood song, “Til He’s Dead or Rises,” with Cooley assuming the lead vocal. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cooley says, & lt;b & gt;“I remember Patterson was getting frustrated trying to sing it. He was doing fine, but it seemed like there was something he wanted to do that wasn’t coming. I was in the control room thinking, ‘I could probably sing this’ -- though it wasn’t like I was saying, ‘Oh, I can sing this a lot better than that.’ I was thinking, ‘This sounds like something I could sing.’ Right after that, he walks into the control room and says, ‘You want to trying singing this? It sounds more like you than me.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I was just thinking that.’” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The album was recorded with a compact, retooled lineup. Jay Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2008 as keyboardist, stepped into an expanded role by adding guitar to his duties, while bassist Matt Patton was drafted from the Tuscaloosa group The Dexateens. The unit was road-tested during dates in 2013. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cooley says, & lt;b & gt; & quot; This lineup is so direct. It can go from this chainsaw rock ‘n’ roll to very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff. We wrote a lot of those kinds of songs, and this lineup got all of that well. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Looking at the accomplishments of English Oceans from the perspective of DBT’s nearly three-decade history, both Cooley and Hood decline to hedge their bets on the quality of their latest work. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;“You’re always hesitant to say, ‘Oh, this is the best record we’ve ever made,’” & lt;/b & gt;Cooley says, & lt;b & gt;“because you always want to. And sometimes you say it, and sometimes you’re right, and sometimes you think, ‘Well, maybe I jumped the gun on that a little bit, I got excited.’ But I think this just might be the best record we’ve ever made.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Hood concurs enthusiastically: & lt;b & gt;“It’s my favorite thing that we’ve ever done. I’m proud of our catalog – we always try to make as good a record as we can make. Sometimes things just work. This time, we made kind of a magical record. I’ve always felt that Decoration Day was our best record, and this is the first one that I think is a better record than that was. Every piece of the puzzle fit & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; The greatest extant American rock and roll band. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Stereogum & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Double Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Includes album download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mike Cooley, vocals, guitar, banjo & lt;br & gt; Patterson Hood, vocals, guitar & lt;br & gt; Matt Patton, vocals, bass & lt;br & gt; Jay Gonzalez, vocals, piano, guitar & lt;br & gt; Brad Morgan, drums, percussion & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Rodrigo Y Gabriela 9 Dead Alive LP (Red Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;First Album of New Music Since 2009's & quot;11:11 & quot; on Red Vinyl! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; ATO proudly releases & quot;9 Dead Alive & quot;, the 2014 studio album by acoustic rock maestros Rodrigo y Gabriela. The album is the band's first record of new material since 11:11 which was released in 2009. 9 Dead Alive was recorded and produced by Rod and Gab at their studio in Ixtapa, Mexico. Mixing was handled by Andrew Scheps (Black Sabbath, Adele, Metallica) in Los Angeles. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; 9 Dead Alive sees Rodrigo y Gabriela playing face to face, guitar versus guitar, bursting with melodic energy and rhythmic invention. Recorded at their Pacific Coast hideaway in late summer 2013, the album captures the warmth and spontaneity of two great musicians locked in together; perfectly distilled into nine songs teeming with desire, elegance and gusto. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Each of the songs on the album is a personal celebration of individuals who have passed on, but through their deeds and words still resonate in the 21st century. Going as far back as Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204) all the way through history to include Viktor Frankl (1905-1997), this diverse and fascinating list will strike a chord with anyone familiar with the duo's passion for human rights, literature, history and philosophy. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Since 2009's album & quot;11:11 & quot;, the duo have collaborated on the soundtracks to & quot;Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Shores & quot; and & quot;Puss N' Boots & quot;. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Rodrigo (Sanchez) and Gabriela (Quintero) are two fast-fingered, Dublin-based, Mexicans with a unique sound created on acoustic guitars. Their music is difficult to define, straddling both world and rock, and often imbued with timeless Hispano--classical influences. The fire in it comes from their life-long passion for metal music. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Rodrigo is a deft finger-picker who can move from raging speed to sensual soul in the space of a fret, while Gabriela employs fast, rhythmic techniques. Her percussionist's thrashing of strings and drumming of the instrument's body inevitably raises comparisons with flamenco -- which they acknowledge as an influence but swerve as a pigeonhole. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; • Red Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Includes download code & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Mike Gordon Overstep 2LP (Blue Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;Fourth Studio Album from Phish Bassist Mike Gordon on Blue Double Vinyl! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Ask, and Mike Gordon will tell you all about the songs he has written and recorded for his fourth solo album Overstep, and how the finished product compares to his previous releases (2003’s Inside In, 2008’s The Green Sparrow, and 2010’s Moss). But as a devotee and student of the creative process, he’d much rather talk about how the songs came to be, and about the long road traveled between idea and finished work. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Most artists have a ritual or routine that they rely on to inspire and guide their efforts from concept to fruition. Gordon has developed hundreds of them over the years, and perhaps thousands. He speaks often about the importance of listening, and of his commitment to following ethereal voices and visions. One such persistent vision he describes was of a spare cabin in the woods with a single window and a desk, and Gordon making music with guitarist and longtime collaborator Scott Murawski. So he called Murawski and proposed a songwriting retreat at idyllic Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. Murawski accepted, and the old friends escaped together to summon the muse, unburdened as yet by the expectation that they would eventually record an album. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; After multiple writing retreats and an album’s worth of core tracks in hand, Gordon took a leap of faith, and hired Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Hole, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr.) as producer to bring the project home. Gordon had self-produced all of his previous albums, but felt he was ready to surrender control to someone who understood his vision and loved the material. “Hiring Paul was definitely the right thing,” says Murawski. “The payoffs are all over the place.” & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Gordon cites three goals that he kept in mind throughout the process from start to finish: Find ways to be raw and sophisticated at the same time; Be groove oriented; Write songs that will be fun to play live. Whether an explicit goal or not, the songs on Overstep evidence Gordon’s evolving ability to develop three-dimensional characters within his songs, and to speak more directly to the truth of their condition. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Gordon and his assembled band can play like crazy, which means Overstep is exactly like a pretty good Phish album, quirky and propulsive, light as dragon's breath, full of winks and asides, from Phish's bass player. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Steve Leggett, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 2LP Set & lt;br & gt; • Blue Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Includes Download Code & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP 1 - Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Jim James Tribute To 12" Vinyl EP
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;George Harrison Tribute Reissued On 12 & quot; Vinyl EP! & lt;br & gt; Includes Previously Unreleased Bonus Track Of Bob Dylan's & quot;If Not For You & quot;! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; A few days after George Harrison passed away in 2001, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James was moved to record this six-song EP of Harrison covers, paying tribute to a man that he never met, but with whom he felt a special connection. On the EP, James performs beautiful renditions of four cuts from Harrison’s classic album All Things Pass as well as two of the Beatles tunes that he penned. These six tracks have a raw, minimalist feel – featuring little more than James’s vocals and acoustic guitar. With all the space, the room in which the tracks were recorded truly serves as another instrument in the mix, creating an ethereal aura for a backdrop. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The 2017 reissue features new cover art and a previously unreleased bonus track - a cover of Bob Dylan's & quot;If Not For You & quot;, which was also recorded in the original 2001 session. SPIN described the EP as & lt;b & gt; & quot;spare and somber - just that windy Americana tenor against a squeaky acoustic guitar … Many of us remember where we were when Harrison died; now we hear when James began to heal. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Tribute To finds James tackling six of the late Beatle's songs, including classic staples such as 'My Sweet Lord' and 'All Things Must Pass.' In his extraordinary album-opener, 'Long Long Long,' James' gorgeous, ringing voice seems to stretch out for days. Accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar and some choice vocal harmonies, he sounds reverent in every sense of the word. Given how hard it is to pin James down — and how prone he is to flights of fancy — it's no surprise that a dose of unmistakable grace serves him well. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Stephen Thompson, NPR & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 12 & quot; Vinyl EP & lt;br & gt; • New packaging & lt;br & gt; • Die cut cover with embossed lettering & lt;br & gt; • Previously unreleased bonus track & lt;br & gt; • Limited time digital download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. This record is full of genre-bending songs—it’s even harder now when people ask, ‘What kind of band are you?’ I have no clue.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The album’s twelve songs reveal a band honed by years on the road, and drawing from a wide range of influences. The bluesy groove of “Shoegaze” or the garage-rock freak-out on “The Greatest” give way to the psychedelic space jam “Gemini.” The gently swaying, chiming title song opens the album with what Howard calls “more of a visual thing, I think of this whole scene going on,” then explodes into the urgent, tightly-coiled funk of “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Long instrumental intros and passages create hazy atmosphere, and then the intensity of Howard’s vocals snaps everything back into riveting focus. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; She explains that there were a few specific recordings that were touchstones for Sound & amp; Color. & lt;b & gt;“The Superfly soundtrack, Gil Scott-Heron’s music and how minimal it could be, David Axelrod—not so much wanting to sound like them, but all of their attention to small details. With ‘Gemini,’ I thought about how the Temptations used to write pop songs, but then got really far out on ‘Cloud Nine’ or ‘Psychedelic Shack.’ I imagined myself in the situation of the African-American groups in the ‘70s, when synthesizers had just come out and they were making all of this moody stuff.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The songs were written during breaks in the grueling touring schedule of a young band, sometimes by the members together and sometimes by Howard working alone at her home studio. She notes that there were several dedicated writing periods during the past year, but that & lt;b & gt;“sometimes I wasn’t dedicating enough time, so I’d binge-write, sit in the basement and work for 18 hours for five days straight.” & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; When the Shakes began recording at Nashville’s Sound Emporium studio, Blake Mills—a young guitar wizard who has previously helmed sessions by Sara Watkins and Sky Ferriera, and played alongside everyone from Norah Jones and the Dixie Chicks to Lana Del Ray and Kid Rock—came on board as a co-producer to help harness all of the different ideas. & lt;b & gt;“Blake really helped bring out our confidence, and our comfort in being ourselves,” & lt;/b & gt; says Fogg, while Howard adds that & lt;b & gt;“Blake has really strong communication, and the ability to light a fire under your ass.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Sound & amp; Color also demonstrates the tremendous strides made by a group of musicians who had only been playing together for a few months when they recorded their first album. & lt;b & gt;“These songs are not simple,” & lt;/b & gt; says Howard. & lt;b & gt;“They’re intricate, like a spider web or a tapestry. Our drummer, Steve, has put in a lot of work, gotten so much better—we all have.” & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; With Sound & amp; Color, Alabama Shakes prove that the response to Boys & amp; Girls was no fluke. Expanding on the soulful blues-rock base that made their name, they defy predictable expectations and map an exciting, surprising, and innovative new direction. As they prepare to return to the road, what shines through is a sense of pride and self-assuredness—feelings not often associated with the always-tricky sophomore album. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Clear Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Double LP & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • Includes Download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP 1 - Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Drive-By Truckers Go-Go Boots 180g 2LP + 1CD (Vinyl)
Go-Go Boots, the eleventh album by Drive-By Truckers, was produced by their longtime producer David Barbe. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The album builds on their roots with the old Muscle Shoals country-and-soul sound. & lt;b & gt; & quot;We recorded nearly 40 songs last year and into this year and fairly early on divided it into two separate albums & quot; & lt;/b & gt; explains DBT co-founder Patterson Hood. & quot; & lt;b & gt;The Big To-Do (ATOLP21701), released first, was the more straightforward & quot;Rock & quot; album. Go-Go Boots is what I sometimes (semi-jokingly) refer to as our country, soul and murder ballad album. Those elements definitely play into it, but it's a little more open ended than that. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley continue to be the chief songwriters of the group, continuing a musical partnership that has lasted over twenty-three years. Bassist, Shonna Tucker, flexes her songwriting muscles once again by contributing two original songs to the album. Brad Morgan (drums), John Neff (guitar/pedal steel) and Jay Gonzalez (keyboards) round out the current Drive-By Truckers lineup. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Drive-By Truckers are the best rock band in America. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - CNN.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Uncut's 100 Most Important Bands of the Decade! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Deluxe vinyl edition & lt;br & gt; • 180g Double Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Double LP + CD of album & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold packaging & lt;br & gt; • Includes vinyl-only bonus track & amp; CD copy of & quot;Go-Go Boots & quot; & lt;br & gt; • Color insert & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mike Cooley, vocals, guitar, banjo & lt;br & gt; Jay Gonzalez, vocals, piano, accordion & lt;br & gt; Patterson Hood, vocals, guitar & lt;br & gt; Brad Morgan, drums & lt;br & gt; John Neff, guitar & lt;br & gt; Shonna Tucker, vocals, bass, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Mike Doughty Haughty Melodic LP Bonus 7" Vinyl (Clear Purple & Clear Orange Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;Remastered Clear Purple Vinyl LP Plus Bonus Orange 7 & quot; Vinyl! & lt;br & gt; Featuring Dave Matthews! & lt;br & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Before emerging as a solo artist, Mike Doughty was best known as the front man of the group Soul Coughing. In 2005, Doughty released his first solo effort to feature, Haughty Melodic, which contained stuido versions of several songs from earlier solo albums. Dave Matthews himself brought the record to the label (and appears on the track & quot;Tremendous Brunettes & quot;). The vinyl has been out of print, but now it has been remastered by ATO Records and Mike Doughty, and re-released with some extra music. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; With his new album Haughty Melodic, Doughty returns to the spotlight. Tracks such as & quot;Madeline and Nine, & quot; & quot;Grey Ghost, & quot; & quot;Busting Up a Starbucks, & quot; & quot; His Truth Is Marching On & quot; and & quot;Sunkeneyed Girl & quot; find Doughty's unique songs rendered in fully realized form, fleshed out with the help of a full band — the first the singer has recorded with since Soul Coughing split in 2000. Among the other melodically complex and emotive tracks on the new disc are the opener & quot;Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well, & quot; the yearning & quot;White Lexus & quot; and the radiant & quot;Unsingable Name. & quot; ATO Records founder Dave Matthews makes a guest appearance, trading verses with Doughty on the rousing and amusing & quot;Tremendous Brunettes. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Haughty Melodic was recorded in Minneapolis with producer Dan Wilson. The pair recruited a number of the Twin Cities' finest musicians to contribute to the album, instilling Doughty's songs with a colorful, ornamented sound that combined the melancholy and psychedelic. Wilson sings backup and plays keyboards on many tracks. Among the album's other contributors are cellist Jane Scarpantoni, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, bassist/trombonist John Munson and N.E.R.D. drummer Eric Fawcett. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The collaboration with Wilson began as a simple songwriting session. & quot;I went to Dan's house in Minneapolis in December 2003 just to mess around with some tunes, write a little, & quot; Doughty explains. & quot;We did a little demo of 'American Car,' very stripped-down and earthy, in Dan's home studio, and it just blew me away. So I resolved to talk him into producing my album, even though I had no record deal at the time, and no way to release a record other than the way I had been doing, selling them at my shows. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Clear Purple Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; • Clear Orange 7 & quot; with Bonus Tracks & lt;br & gt; • Remastered & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • New Liner Notes & lt;br & gt; • Limited Time Digital Download Card & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP 1 & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Primus The Desaturating Seven LP (Clear with Rainbow Splatter Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;Carnivalesque Goblin Rock On Clear with Rainbow Splatter Vinyl LP! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Primus returns with their first new album of original music since 2011's Green Naugahyde in what can only be described as GOBLIN ROCK! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Primus adapted an obscure children's book into a wild musical opus with their ninth LP, The Desaturating Seven, via ATO Records. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; The experimental rock trio tease the record's carnivalesque atmosphere with lead single & quot; The Seven, & quot; an ever-mutating epic filled with marching rhythms, jarring tempo shifts and a prog-funk groove (cleverly set in 7/8) that recalls early Eighties King Crimson. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot; & quot;It definitely has that Discipline feel, & quot; bassist-singer Les Claypool tells Rolling Stone, referencing King Crimson's 1981 LP. & quot; But it's also very reminiscent of [Primus' 1991 track] 'Jerry Was a Racecar Driver,' that tapping and the syncopated bit with me and [guitarist Larry & quot;Ler & quot; LaLonde]. But all that probably comes from the Crimson influence as well because Crimson was definitely a big influence on the three of us. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot; The Desaturating Seven is the band's first studio album of original material since 2011's Green Naugahyde – and their first with LaLonde and drummer Tim Alexander since 1995's Tales From the Punchbowl. The LP is based on Italian writer and illustrator Ul de Rico's trippy 1978 book, The Rainbow Goblins, which Claypool's wife introduced him to & quot;many, many years ago. & quot; The couple, struck by de Rico's & quot;vibrant and intense and eerie and somewhat creepy & quot; artwork, used to read the book to their children – and Claypool earmarked the title for a potential musical project... & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - rollingstone.com, July 2017 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Rainbow splatter colored vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Limited time digital download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. The album was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN. Produced and mixed by the band members, the album is a vibrant fusion of swampy, dirty South rock, blues and soul delivered with punk rock fervor. From the heartrending title song to such stomps as & quot;Rise to the Sun & quot;, the album demonstrates the sense of groove and space the band learned from their idols, along with a blistering force and emotion that simply can't be learned. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Alabama Shakes originated when lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard and bassist Zac Cockrell, both in high school in Athens, began meeting after school to write songs. The duo began playing prog rock and other genres but soon found a calling playing roots rock. Drummer Steve Johnson joined the band next when the duo decided to record some of the songs they had written. After hearing the demo, guitarist Heath Fogg joined the group next.
